Installing the client is the easy part. This covers pairing it to a Device, setting a technician PIN before it locks you out of your own settings, and what every kiosk toggle actually does.

The panic key, and other ways out

There isn't one single "recovery mode" button. It's a few different tools, each for a different situation:

The panic key: Ctrl+Shift+Alt+F12

Turns off every security feature and closes the client immediately. This is the "something's gone wrong, get me out now" option, so keep it to yourself, not posted on the wall. Once a real technician PIN is set (Chapter 4), it asks for that PIN first, the same keypad as Technician Settings, so a customer who's spotted the combo can't use it. Before a real PIN has ever been configured, it still fires instantly with no PIN, exactly as it always has.

The gentler option from Chapter 5: turn off just the one feature causing trouble, PIN required, machine keeps running otherwise.

Re-Pair Machine (danger zone)

Clears pairing entirely and sends the machine back to first-run setup. Use this if a PC needs to be reassigned to a different Device record, or pairing got into a bad state.

Note

This is why Chapter 4 matters: until a real PIN is set, the panic key is wide open to anyone who knows the combo, staff or customer. Set the PIN before the machine ever reaches a real floor.

Technician Settings also has Shutdown Agent, Shutdown PC, and Reboot PC in that same danger zone, each with its own confirmation before it runs.
