Chapter 5 · Every gaming PC
Install on every other PC
Every PC that should mount the shared library, including whichever one you plan to use as your Update PC, gets the exact same install as Chapter 3's Server PC: Agent + Vault on the role screen. The only difference is you won't be assigning this one as the Server afterward; everything else about the install itself is identical.
-
Install on each PC. Double-click
LANBearVault.msi, pick Agent + Vault on the role screen, and click through the rest of the wizard, or runmsiexec /i LANBearVault.msi /quiet ROLE=AgentNodefrom a command prompt for a scripted install that skips the wizard entirely. It installs as a Windows service and starts automatically, nothing to configure by hand. - It finds your paired Vault Server on the café LAN on its own, no address to type in.
- Once found, it starts mounting the shared library at the drive letter you provisioned in Chapter 4.
Note
A PC only ever needs this if it should mount the shared library. A kiosk that's never going to touch Vault (a front-desk or ticketing-only PC, say) can just pick plain Agent on the role screen instead and skip this chapter for that one machine.
Note
Unlike the Server, a PC that's never assigned as one doesn't need any inbound ports actually reachable. It only ever reaches out to the Server, never the other way around. The installer adds the same firewall rules to every PC regardless (it's one installer, so it can't know in advance which PC you'll later assign as Server), but on any other PC they just sit there unused. Either way, there's nothing for you to open by hand.
Repeat for every PC. Once they've all checked in, you're ready to pick which one gets to keep its changes: the Update PC, covered next.
